Florida is hands down the state, which is the largest producer of citrus in the United States. California would of course be its closest second. Why is so much citrus grown in Florida? Florida is a tropical climate that is right at sea level. Though Florida does freeze, it freezes considerably less than any other part in the country. Despite its lower rate of hard freezes, it makes big news whenever there is a deep freeze since farmers lose millions of can lose millions of dollars in crops.
